SANTA FE — August 6, 2019 — Yearout Energy, an Energy Services Company (ESCO) headquartered in Albuquerque, announced that they have entered into a $16.5 million contract with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) to implement a Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contract (GESPC) project at the department’s General Office Complex (GO) in Santa Fe.
In all, NMDOT will see a utility and operational savings of $152,500 in the first year. The facility will also receive an estimated utility rebate of $21,500 and reduce its annual energy utility costs by 40 percent. NMDOT will generate overall savings of more than 4.5 Million over 20 Years. NMDOT will be installing a 400 kW DC solar PV carport at the GO Complex that will address 80% of the GO energy used during peak hours.
“Working with Yearout Energy to create this contract has already yielded money-saving results,” said Richard G. Chavez, General Services Bureau Chief, for Buildings and Grounds for NMDOT. “We are looking forward to the results of the upgrades, particularly to the HVAC system and the annual utility and operational savings in the coming years.”
During the evaluation phase of the contract, Yearout Energy came across a utility billing error that resulted in nearly $10,000 in annual utility savings, before the facility improvement measures began.
“Entering into a GESPC can provide so many benefits for an organization beyond cost savings,” said Alex Montaño, vice president of project development for Yearout Energy. “Many facilities haven’t had the opportunity to examine their equipment, buildings, or even their utility bills with a fresh set of eyes in a long time. We’re pleased that we were able to provide a service beyond expectations in this instance.”
The upgrades will reduce the power needs for lighting by 60 percent for NMDOT thanks to new LED technology. Furthermore, the facility improvements will help the facility conserve water by replacing aged water lines and updating domestic water fixtures throughout the complex. NMDOT will reduce its annual emissions by 1.88 million lbs of CO2 through these improvements.
Yearout Energy implemented several facility improvement measures to improve the energy and water consumption of the 12 buildings on the NMDOT main campus, including:
- Installing nearly 2,350 new LED lighting fixtures
- Replacing existing HVAC equipment with high-efficiency VRF system along with a new campus-wide building automation system (BAS)
- Replacing aged single-pane windows with new double-pane windows
- Remediating nearly 50 sq ft of existing air leakage area
- Upgrading existing water fixtures campus-wide
- Upgrading existing electrical systems in nearly all campus facilities
- Replacing damaged water line at GO/Annex
- Utility management
Construction for the project will begin in August 2019 and is expected to be completed by spring 2021.
